AL Sharia is a Bangladeshi columnist, poet, filmmaker and environmental activist whose work explores climate justice, environmental issues, Indigenous and marginalized voices, and the lived realities of coastal communities. He is also a co-founder of ReEarth Club, BRUR at Begum Rokeya University, Rangpur, a youth-led environmental initiative working on environmental awareness, climate action, and community engagement.
In 2026, he was part of the winning team of Film for Change 2026, a national filmmaking competition supported by Oxfam in Bangladesh and organized by Cinemascope, ULAB. The team is producing a documentary on the Bedey community, focusing on their changing traditions, challenges and struggle for survival.
Early Life and Background
AL Sharia has a deep connection with both Khulna, a climate-vulnerable coastal region of Bangladesh, and Rangpur. Growing up in Khulna, his experiences with coastal vulnerability, river erosion, cyclones, salinity, and climate-induced displacement have influenced his writing and creative work.
Education
He is currently pursuing undergraduate studies in Disaster Science and Management at Begum Rokeya University, Rangpur. He previously completed his higher secondary education at Government Sundarban Adarsha College, Khulna.
